What's new in Redwood City

Heads-up! I am very excited that my current agility instructor, Dorothy Fujimura has agreed to do agility workshops at Planet Pooch. I have been involved in the sport for many years had some great instructors, but Dorothy is truly tops. Her tutelage has immensely improved my performance with Little Guy. In fact, Dorothy is one of the best teachers I have ever trained with or even observed.

Introduction to Agility presented by Dorothy Fujimura
Saturday, February 11th   1 PM – 4 PM   $58

Agility is one of the best and fastest growing dog sports for a good reason - it is a REALLY fun team sport and beneficial for just about all healthy dogs, whether super energetic to the bit shy. Not only is agility fun, in this sport you also build a stronger bond with your dog and your dog even learns better manners. In this introduction workshop, you and your dog will learn foundation skills needed for a successful start in agility - skills that are necessary if you continue in the sport. Included in the workshop is your dog learning on agility training equipment.

This workshop is recommended for those interested in agility, new to the sport or novices. Also recommended for those who want to improve their foundation skills.

Course strategies and Jumping Coursework presented by Dorothy Fujimura
Sunday, February 12th   10 AM - 1 PM   $58

You will learn the whys and hows of course strategy. More specifically, learn how to make choices for course strategies / handling positions that work best for you and your dog. Then learn how to better execute your plan. Agility is 80% jumping and handlers often under-train for jumps even though jumping mistakes are a primary reason for NQ runs. This first workshop will focus on jumping courses, but what you learn in this workshop is applicable to all your practice and runs. Included are primary exercises to improve your overall communication and performance.

This course is for those who would benefit from the workshop. Ideally those already competing in any level or preparing to compete or just enjoy taking classes and improve their team performance.

Prerequisite: Puppies/dogs that can work off-leash safely and closely around people and other dogs, will stay/wait under moderate distraction, come when called and are quiet when in a crate and/ or tethered - basically, we do not want barking to disrupt the class.

To sign-up for the workshops, please use the "Dog Class Registration".

Triebball and Flyball workshops will be scheduled by mid-February.

For regular dog class and puppy class descriptions, plus prerequisites (all classes have prerequisites),  please go to the Dog Training Class page or for short classes and workshops, check the class details on this page.

Notes: There may be prerequisite exceptions made, check with Cerena by email: cerena.gooddog@gmail.com

Vaccination Notice: For all courses, including drop-in Play group, proof of vaccinations appropriate for your dog’s age is required. Your dog should also be vaccinated for Bordetella kennel cough. For more information please go to: http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/kenc.html

Puppy Play Group in Redwood City

Puppy play group is held Saturdays 10 AM - 11 AM at Planet Pooch, 866 Kaynyne St. Redwood City (this location is only a couple of minutes off Hwy 101 and actually a preferred location for many of my Los Altos and Palo Alto students).

$10 drop in fee.

Puppies must start in play group BEFORE the age of 16 weeks.

Proof of vaccinations is required the first visit.

Why puppies should start socialization as soon as possible: AVSAB Position Statement on Puppy Socialization http://www.avsabonline.org/avsabonline/images/stories/Position_Statements/puppy%20socialization.pdf

Adolescent Play is on hold, BUT, puppies that start in play group before the age of 4 months, may continue in puppy play group as long as they enjoy it and maintain excellent play skills. Puppy dogs are segregated into group as needed.

Play group is not for adolescent bullies. Again, please note that puppies need to start in play group before the age of 16 weeks in order to continue attending play group

In case of a last minute Saturday play group cancellation, check this page or home page Friday evening.
